Can you smell your memories?
Through smell, a landscape may appear before it is fully experienced.
A subtle trace in the air unfolds into something familiar, a place, a feeling, a moment not entirely fixed, yet deeply recognised.
For the sensory installation This Is Not a Forest at Danish Architecture Center during 3daysofdesign, we contribute a sensory layer that reflects on how we perceive and remember the forest from a distance, as an idea.
The installation, developed by Archival Studies in collaboration with Dinesen Lab, centres on the concept of constructed materiality drawn from nature. The forest, as it appears here, is not found but formed, translated, processed, and brought indoors as elements that shape the spaces we inhabit.
Our contribution takes form through fragrance, more specifically Floating Leaf.
A green composition that does not seek to replicate the forest, but to evoke an idea of its presence. The humidity of air, the softness of damp grass, the quiet movement of water. An atmosphere that lingers between the immediate and the remembered.
Fragrance moves differently than tangible form. It is carried by air, constantly shifting, unfolding in time and space. It resists clear boundaries, allowing impressions to overlap and settle gradually.
