We did not set out to create fragrances. As architects, our work centres on shaping atmosphere through space and material. Gradually, our focus extended towards what escapes the eye, the invisible, airborne layer that also defines how a space is experienced.
In architecture, materials are composed to create atmosphere. We consider how surfaces feel, how light moves, and how spaces are inhabited. Over time, we began tuning into scent as part of this composition; how materials release it, how air carries it, and how transitions between exterior and interior subtly transform it. This curiosity became the starting point of our work with fragrance.
Each fragrance begins with a brief grounded in a sensory idea. We describe, draw, and visualise an atmosphere before it exists, often anchored in something tangible: an architectural model, a landscape, a composition of materials and light, or a memory. From here, the process unfolds as a translation.
We develop our fragrances in close collaboration with a perfumer. Together, we work through iterations, sketch by sketch, exploring the structure and chronology of the concept. The dialogue between architecture and perfumery sharpens the process, opening both disciplines in new ways. A fragrance evolves over time, much like a space, with an opening, a transition, and a deeper, more intimate core.
Each version brings us closer. We adjust proportions, introduce contrast, and remove what is unnecessary, always working towards clarity.
At certain stages, we invite others into the process. Through intimate smell sessions, we share the work in progress with our community, listening closely to their impressions and associations. These encounters bring new perspectives, helping us understand what resonates and where the balance needs refinement.
Our process is shaped by our background in architecture. We are not classically trained in perfumery. Instead, we approach fragrance as something to be constructed.
A language typically used in architecture is translated into fragrance.
To us, the result is a fragrance composition that unfolds over time, reflecting the complexities and nuances of the constructed world, carried on the skin or diffused into a room.
